Wattle Range Council currently has a vacancy for a Building Surveyor to join their team. Within this role you will report directly through to the Manager Development, Health & Compliance.

The main responsibilities of this role are:

  • Undertake Development and Building Rules functions
  • Ensure that the building assessment, certification and control function is carried out
  • Comply with Council Safety Program
  • Assess Development Applications
  • Ensure that all development matters are dealt with and approved
  • Prepare and submit reports and recommendations as required regarding Development Applications
  • Examine all (appropriate) classes of applications for Building Rules Consent/Development Approval
  • Correspond and liaise with relevant stakeholders as required.
  • Forward relevant applications to Council's Building Surveyor and the relevant Fire Authority for checking and consultation
  • Ensure that professional records and files are maintained.
  • Assist in the formulation and review the Development Policy, By-Laws and Delegations used by Council.
  • Assist the Management with the preparation of relevant plans in relation to matters affecting development control.
  • Implement a program of inspections of development work, and communicate any defective work noted
  • Undertake inspectorial work to ascertain whether developments comply with Approval granted by the Council.
  • Carry out investigations and prepare suitable reports and recommendations.
  • Ensure that professional records and files are maintained.
  • Develop good working relations with Government referral agencies

To be successful in this role you will possess the following:

  • Current accreditation as a Building Surveyor (Level 1 or 2)
  • Membership of Australian Institute of Building Surveyors or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Council
  • Knowledge of National Construction Code, Local Government Act
  • Strong communication skills
  • Competency in Microsoft Office suite, Database access, and relevant professional software.
  • Current Class C driver's license.
