Darebin City Council is located in Melbourne’s inner northern suburbs, stretching from Northcote in the south to Reservoir in the north. With a reputation as a cultural, progressive and multicultural municipality. Darebin Council has an ambitious workplan, centred on achieving its vision of a bolder, greener, more connected city.
Darebin City Council is currently looking to recruit a Coordinator City Design. Reporting to the Manager City Futures, this is a key leadership role in the organisation, that will see you lead a team to shape the future of the city and define and play a major role in achieving cultural transformation in design in the team and the organisation.
The team has a full portfolio of exciting, city-shaping projects including significant new open space created by the removal of the level crossings in Preston and Bell, new park master plans, streetscape improvements, new pocket parks and play spaces and championing the implementation of the newly adopted Open Space Strategy. A key part of the role will be to support and enable a talented and passionate team of Landscape Architects and Urban Designers to deliver projects, respond to customer and councillor enquiries, and report on project progress through updates, reports and briefings.
We see you as a natural leader, creative problem solver and big picture thinker who can build strong working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and staff. Your ability to deliver excellent public realm design outcomes and effectively engage with diverse communities to develop a shared vision for the future will see you drive innovation within a growing and rapidly changing city.
In this role you will drive public place design, design-thinking processes and collaboration. You will also be part of a broader organisational push to raise design standards in the city and will work closely with colleagues in statutory and strategic planning to drive this.
To be successful in this role you will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience in the urban design industry. You will have a proven track record of delivering projects in a complex, fast paced and political environment and demonstrate your ability to motivate and engage a team working in a dynamic environment, whilst being collaborative with a range of stakeholders. In return you will be rewarded with a competitive package and the opportunity to work in a talented team, shaping the future of the city of Darebin, in an environment that enables innovation and collaboration.
